Running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 15th district is an independant named Jake Towne. Running as an independent is a very daunting task. Republicans and Democrats have lots of money to throw behind their candidates and as we all know, most Americans vote along party lines, without really knowing what their candidate stands for. Independents have to raise money, usually, from individuals, rarely receive public backing from unions or other institutions and are considered lucky to be invited to political debates. If one truly cares who represents them in Washington, they should seriously consider Jake Towne for Congress in 2010. If you are looking for a real representative and not just another politician who cares only what you think as long as it gets him reelected.
First of all, Towne is a strict Constitutionalist. He realizes the dangers of straying from the cherished document and the tyranny it was written to prohibit. If you know the U.S. Constitution, and all Americans should its easy to predict how Towne would vote for each bill in the House. This is an important fact, most American's do not follow each bill that goes through Congress and how it could effect their lives..until its too late. While it is each person's responsibility to follow the legislative process and how it effects them, if you were to miss something, you could rest assured the bill is Constitutional, or Towne would not vote for it.
Are you like the majority of American's who are waking up to the fact that the wars going on in Afghanistan and Iraq, not to mention the constant military actions taking place in Pakistan and Yemen, are not only illegal but bankrupting our nation while not making us any bit safer, in fact making us less safe? Towne is committed to bringing our troops home, as soon as possible. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are Al Qaeda's best sources of recruiting for militants that wish to do harm to the United States. We simply cannot afford these expensive occupations, especially when they put us in danger of future aggression and retaliation. We need a strong national defense, not an empire.
One thing most people would like to see in our government is transparency. Its a buzzword thrown around by just about every politician, abandoned as soon as they get elected. If you have ever written a letter to your representative you likely never even got a response. It makes you wonder if they even care. Towne has an idea called Our Open Office, its a revolutionary idea where you can go online and participate in real debates on issues that matter to you. You can read more about here: (http://towneforcongress.com/platform-issues/our-open-office-plank) No more wondering whether or not your voice is being heard. With Our Open Office you can tell Towne exactly how you feel and see what others think, not just what inaccurate polls say about what people think about specific issues.
Currently health care and the economy are the biggest issues in America. Jake Towne is committed to helping our economy once again be the strongest in the world. How does he plan on helping? By not interfering. Towne believes in free markets, and understands that unconstitutional and high taxes hurt an economy, not help it. Towne is committed to abolishing the income tax and the IRS. He also understands you cannot do that without slashing wasteful government spending. Towne also understands that health care cannot and will not get better or less expensive with the government continuing to meddle and regulate. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and there is no such thing as free health care. Towne wants to get the government out of health care and let the free market fix what the beauracrats broke.
If you still doubt that Jake Towne is any different than all the other politicians in Washington then you will like this, Towne believes government needs salary cuts – and will start with his own. Towne will only accept the estimated 2008 median household income in the 15th district of $58,080 instead of $174,000. After taxes, Towne will donate the remainder of his salary to local non-profit hospitals to help provide health care to those who need it the most in the district. How many politicians do you know, other than Ron Paul who would do something like this? If you want to know more about Jake Towne, visit his website: http://TowneforCongress.com and read about his stance on the issues. If you live in Pennsylvania's 15th district, get out there and vote for him. If your like me and do not live in Pennsylvania and just want to see honest liberty loving candidates win seats in Washington, consider donating to the campaign.
